Book Description: A hands-on Guide to help you and those you love through Illness.
About the Author
GloMar Books, Inc., was formed in 1999, by Gloria McCall Kanahele and Marcus Kanahele as a vehicle to publish a series of books which they have written to help seriously ill people, their family, friends and caregivers to better care for and cope with the problems and emotions that arise when someone you love becomes ill. Their second goal in publishing these books is to raise funds for organizations that work with and help children, adults and families dealing with a critical illness. The first book published, "101 Things To Say Or Do When Someone You Love Is Ill", offers practical help and emotional support in providing day-to-day care for someone who is seriously ill as well as help for the caregiver.
The second in the series is devoted to children, "25 Things Kids Can Say Or Do When Someone They Love Is Ill." It is an activity book meant to be completed with a parent or older family member. Through the activities and games, children gain important information on how to handle an emergency, who to call, how they can help and most importantly who they can talk to so they are not frightened by the illness.
Born in Lake Erie, PA., Gloria was raised in Columbia, SC., where she owned a successful communications firm. Shortly after deciding to move her business to Atlanta, Gloria was diagnosed with Nodular Sclerosis Hodgkins Disease, which is a form of cancer that attacks the lymph glands. Before the diagnosis, Gloria had met Marcus Kanahele. They had fallen in love and become engaged. The news of Gloria's illness was devastating to both of them. After one year of chemotherapy and radiation, Gloria was pronounced "cancer free", but the treatment left her physically weak and emotionally exhausted. It took Gloria several years to regain her strength, but with Marcus' love, support and a combination of diet, exercise, vitamins and herbs, Gloria has remained strong and healthy. It is because of her own experience and that of her mother-in-law, that she felt the need to write a series of "help" books, of which 101 Things is the first. |
